The End of a Decade

The fact that an entire decade has passed never really occurred to me until a few weeks ago. It's been sensationalized to death by the media for the last few weeks, but can you really blame them? When you actually consider it, 10 years is a really long time. So much has happened; the Reign of G.W.Bush, 9/11, Youtube, iEverything, climate change, just to name a few things.

Looking at the decade on a personal level has been enlightening. I have grown so much in the past decade and have experienced a lot of events that have changed me significantly. My reflections led to me writing down a list of the things that I have learned from 2000 to 2009 in my journal. I compiled a massive list of life lessons but I don't want this to come off as a self help seminar so I have chosen to share a select few that really speak to me. I'm not usually one to share my thoughts, ideas or feelings but with a new decade on the horizon, why not turn over a new leaf? Enjoy.

1. It's hard to forgive and harder to ask for forgiveness but the hardest thing to do is forgive yourself.

2. Family and friends are your greatest assets. Let them inspire you for a lifetime.

3. When a loved one passes away, their legacy lives on through you. Do them the honor and act accordingly.

4. Love and lust can be easily mistaken for one another, however, the companionship and resulting satisfaction attributed to love is unmistakable.

5. Can money buy you happiness? To an extent, but happiness affords contentment.

6. The worst thing you can do is lie to yourself.

7. Learning is the most rewarding activity possible.

8. Pride can get in the way of achieving your goals. Admitting failure is admitting to reason. Eat humble pie.

9. The Universe works harmoniously through its own ways.

10. You're not always right; grab some perspective.

11. Patience is a virtue; it's never too late to grasp it.

Happy New Year and prosperous 2010-2019

Loves,
